問 SPEAKING UP

自八十年代末,香港經歷多項大事:九七回歸、金融風暴、經濟轉型及政制改革等等,都令香港在經濟、政治及文化上起了重大變化。 本片訪問約六十位來自各階層的人士,以了解他們對香港的看法。他們對香港有些甚麼滿意或不滿意的地方?有甚?建議?他們有甚麼理想?

Since the end of eighties, Hong Kong has been through tremendous changes - re unification with China, economic downturn, political reform, etc, have all greatly affected our way of life. In the film, about sixty people are invited to talk about their views on several major socio-economic and political issues.


七月 JULY

二零零三年七月一日,超過五十萬人參加了香港有史以來規模最大的反政府示威遊行。是日維園足球場給工聯會用作慶祝回歸,維園草地及銅鑼灣街頭擠集大批市民,在烈日下苦候加入示威行列,不少人暈倒卻秩序井然。遊行從日至夜,歷八、九小時始結束。七月九日遮打花園的集會是七一遊行的延續,參加人數超過五萬。電影【七月】紀錄了這歷史性的時刻。

Hong Kong's massive and unprecedented public protests and demonstrations in early July 2003 are documented in July. The film shows individual and mass reactions to the proposed national security legislation. It preserves the speeches, songs, chants, posters, and banners, as well as the atmosphere, for those who were there, and introduces them to those who were not. As such, July "is a record of events that could not occur anywhere else in China.

本片描述2002年9月3日,在慈雲山球場舉行的一次盂蘭節派米活動。參加輪米的人士約有八千二百人,大部份為長者。派米活動在上午九時開始,至傍晚六時結束。大部份輪候者在清晨四時已抵達球場,當日警方派出約百名警員到場維持秩序。

During the Festival of Hungry Ghosts, many Taoist organizations stage ceremonies to honor the dead, and give away rice to the elderly and the poor. The rice distribution depicted in this film was scheduled to last from 9 am to 6 pm. In order to ensure a place in the line, most of the participants arrived before dawn.


搬屋 MOVING

牛頭角h為香港最大的舊型公共屋h之一,居民多為獨居長者及貧苦家庭。政府近年重建該區,自2001年起居民陸續搬去其他新屋h。本片以五個多月的時間拍攝,紀錄獨居長者搬遷期間遇上的種種困難,以及日常生活的苦與樂。

Ngau Tau Kok Estate is one of the oldest and largest public housing projects in Hong Kong. Since 2001, after the government announced its plan to re-develop the area, residents have been gradually relocated to new housing estates. Following two social workers who work with the residents as they deal with the relocation, the film offers a glimpse of the lives of impoverished old people. It is a group portrait of our parents and grandparents.

 

中學 SECONDARY SCHOOL

本片以三個多月的時間拍攝香港兩所聲譽優良的“Band One”中學的日常生活,包括上課、早會、老師會議、課外活動及家長工作坊等活動。它嘗試去了解老師教學目的與方法、學生的價值觀、學校對男女角色的看法、家長與子女的關係及教師的處境等情況。

Shot over three months, the documentary chronicles the daily lives of two prestigious secondary schools, one for boys and one for girls. Employing the Direct Cinema approach, it observes the Hong Kong school system at close-range.
Known for being highly competitive and exam-orientated, the Hong Kong education system has been undergoing various reforms for more than 15 years. Today, education reform remains one of the city’s most controversial issues.
