Introduction
The Chinese Documentary Festival is a unique cultural event which showcases
outstanding Chinese documentary films and gives special recognition to
talented Chinese documentary filmmakers whose works focus on China and
the Chinese Diaspora.
The Festival offers audiences a comprehensive programme of documentary
films which are artistic, informative and socially relevant.
Filmmakers in different Chinese communities in Asia have been very productive
and adventurous. Each year, there are hundreds of works being made. Many
are highly interesting. Some are remarkable works of art. However, the
chance for the general public to see and discuss them is rare. Therefore,
the Festival will help to make more documentaries accessible to the public.
The three major Chinese communities: China; Taiwan and Hong Kong; and
Chinese communities in Asia, share many similarities as well as obvious
differences. By grouping films in Chinese languages together, thus creating
a “collage” of records of contemporary Chinese lives, we encourage better
communications among different communities as well as strengthen our cultural
heritage.
